Check out the new Morongo Valley Skate and Bike Park, named 'The Slab' at it's opening dedication and celebration April 16 2011 at Covington Park.

John Brudvic cuts the ribbon (giant skateboard) for the opening dedication of thr new addition to the skate park.

The Skate Park, one of the projects funded by a Bond Act Grant, will be named by local contractor and businessman, John Brudvik. The Morongo Valley CSD Board of Directors paid tribute to Brudvik’s many community contributions by offering the naming opportunity to him. The Bond Act monies were used to fund improvements in Covington Park. The area boasts a new playground, sidewalks to make the area accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. The tennis courts were resurfaced and re-striped. The pavilion floor, constructed in the 1950’s, also received a new, smooth dance surface. A new beach volleyball court is situated next to the skate park. New restrooms in the same vicinity offer amenities for visitors. Some behind the scenes work was also accomplished: an old snack stand was refurbished and will provide much needed storage and event space. An out of service, electrical system was brought up to code, an entry light erected and a new electric system installed in the lawn area to offer enhanced features for events and weddings. A 5000 gallon water tank will allow the baseball fields to be properly watered and serve as a back-up for emergency purposes.

The most popular improvement is the addition to the Skate Park. Phase II doubled the surface area and added new features like stairs, rails, benches and a launch ramp. New construction included access to Phase I via stairs, ramps and “wings” to allow a free flow to the entire complex for skaters, bikers and razor riders.
